Description

Delight in these luscious Strawberry Jam Doughnuts, crafted with a soft, yeasted dough fried to golden perfection, filled with sweet strawberry jam, and finished with a vanilla glaze and festive Valentine’s sprinkles. A perfect treat for special occasions or everyday indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp instant yeast

Filling and Coating

  • ½ cup strawberry jam
  • ½ cup granulated sugar (for rolling)

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2-4 tbsp milk
  • Pink food coloring
  • Valentine’s sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: In a mixer, combine all dough ingredients (flour, granulated sugar, salt, whole milk, melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, and instant yeast). Knead until a smooth ball forms, then cover and chill the dough overnight in the refrigerator to develop flavor and texture.
  2. Shape the doughnuts: After removing the dough from the fridge, let it rise for 30 minutes at room temperature until slightly puffed. Roll the dough out to about ½ inch thickness and use heart-shaped cutters to cut the dough into shapes.
  3. Fry the doughnuts: Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C). Fry 3-4 doughnuts at a time for approximately 1 minute per side or until they turn golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  4. Coat and fill: While still warm, roll each doughnut in granulated sugar to coat evenly. Using a piping bag or small spoon, fill each doughnut with about a tablespoon of strawberry jam by injecting it into the center.
  5. Prepare the glaze: Melt butter and whisk together with powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and enough milk (2-4 tbsp) to reach a smooth, drizzle-able consistency. Add a few drops of pink food coloring and mix well.
  6. Glaze and decorate: Dip or drizzle each jam-filled doughnut with the pink vanilla glaze. Immediately sprinkle Valentine’s sprinkles on top for a festive finish. Allow glaze to set briefly before serving.

Notes

  • Chilling the dough overnight improves flavor and dough texture for fluffier doughnuts.
  • Maintain the oil temperature at 375°F to ensure even cooking and prevent greasy doughnuts.
  • Fill doughnuts when warm for easier jelly injection and smoother texture.
  • You can substitute strawberry jam with any berry or fruit jam of your choice.
  • Serve fresh as doughnuts are best enjoyed on the day they are made.
