Description

Pesto Cheese Bombs are a deliciously gooey appetizer featuring mozzarella cheese wrapped in flaky biscuit dough, coated with flavorful pesto, and baked to golden perfection. Served with warm marinara sauce for dipping, these cheesy bites make a perfect party snack or game day treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Biscuit Dough & Cheese

  • 16 ounces biscuit dough (the kind from the tube)
  • 4 mozzarella string cheese sticks

Coating & Dipping

  • 1/2 cup pesto
  • Butter for greasing
  • 1 cup marinara sauce (warmed)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the baking setup. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Place a ramekin or ceramic bowl in the center of a springform pan and grease the inside edges of the pan as well as the outside of the bowl to prevent sticking.
  2. Form cheese bombs. Separate the biscuit dough by splitting each biscuit into layers, totaling 16 ounces. Cut each of the 4 mozzarella string cheese sticks into quarters, creating 16 cheese pieces. Wrap each piece of cheese with biscuit dough and seal the edges completely to form a ball.
  3. Coat with pesto and arrange in pan. Pour the 1/2 cup pesto into a small bowl. Roll each dough ball in the pesto to coat evenly. Arrange all the balls in a ring shape around the ramekin in the springform pan. Spread any remaining pesto over the top of the dough balls.
  4. Bake until golden and melty. Place a layer of foil under the pan to catch any grease drips. Bake the cheese bombs for 35 to 40 minutes or until they are golden brown and melted cheese is slightly visible through the dough.
  5. Serve with marinara. Remove from the oven and place the warmed 1 cup marinara sauce into the ramekin at the center. Serve the pesto cheese bombs hot for dipping and enjoying.

Notes

  • Use a springform pan to keep the cheese bombs arranged neatly and to easily transfer them to the table for serving.
  • Sealing the dough edges completely around the cheese is important to prevent cheese from leaking out during baking.
  • The foil under the pan helps catch any oily drips and keeps your oven clean.
  • Warming the marinara sauce enhances the flavor and makes dipping more enjoyable.
  • You can substitute pesto with other sauces like garlic butter or marinara for a different flavor profile.
  • This recipe is best served fresh and hot to enjoy the gooey cheese center.
