Description

This Irresistible Hash Brown Crust Bacon and Cheddar Quiche is a savory breakfast or brunch dish featuring a crispy hash brown crust filled with crispy bacon, sharp cheddar cheese, and a creamy egg custard. Perfect for make-ahead meals, it combines the comforting flavors of breakfast favorites baked together in a delicious quiche.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 3 cups frozen shredded hash browns (thawed and drained)
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Filling

  • 6 slices bacon (cooked and crumbled)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk or half-and-half
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Garnish (optional)

  • Chopped chives or parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare crust: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a medium bowl, combine the thawed and drained hash browns with melted butter, salt, and black pepper. Mix well. Press this mixture firmly into a greased 9-inch pie dish, covering the bottom and forming a crust up the sides. Bake the crust for 20 to 25 minutes until it turns golden and begins to crisp.
  2. Cook bacon and prepare egg mixture: While the crust is baking, cook the bacon slices until crispy. Drain on paper towels, then crumble them into small pieces. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk or half-and-half, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper until well combined.
  3. Assemble the quiche: Once the crust is baked, remove it from the oven. Evenly layer the crumbled bacon and shredded cheddar cheese over the crust. Pour the seasoned egg mixture gently on top, ensuring it spreads evenly.
  4. Bake the quiche: Return the pie dish to the oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until the quiche filling is set and the top is lightly golden. To test doneness, the center should be firm with no jiggle.
  5. Cool and garnish: Remove the quiche from the oven and let it cool for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped chives or parsley if desired, then serve warm.

Notes

  • Cheddar cheese can be swapped with Swiss or pepper jack for different flavors.
  • For added vegetables, sautéed spinach, mushrooms, or bell peppers can be folded into the egg mixture before baking.
  • This quiche reheats well, making it ideal for make-ahead breakfasts or brunches.
  • Ensure hash browns are well thawed and drained to achieve a crisp crust.
