Description

French Dip Tortilla Roll Ups are a delicious twist on the classic French dip sandwich, combining thinly sliced roast beef and melted cheese wrapped in flour tortillas. Baked until golden and served with a flavorful au jus dipping sauce made from beef broth and seasonings, these roll ups are perfect as an easy appetizer or a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Roll Ups

  • 1 lb thinly sliced roast beef
  • 1.5 cups shredded mozzarella or provolone cheese
  • 4 large flour tortillas
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

Au Jus Sauce

  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Optional: additional 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder and 1/2 teaspoon onion powder for au jus seasoning

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and facilitate easy cleanup.
  2. Assemble Filling: Lay out each flour tortilla and evenly distribute the thinly sliced roast beef and shredded mozzarella or provolone cheese across each one.
  3. Roll Tortillas: Starting from the bottom, roll up each tortilla tightly, folding the sides inward to keep the filling secure and prevent the cheese from spilling out.
  4. Prepare for Baking: Brush the outside of each rolled tortilla with melted butter and sprinkle evenly with garlic powder, onion powder, and dried parsley to add flavor and help achieve a golden crust.
  5. Bake Roll Ups: Place the roll ups on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown and the cheese has melted inside.
  6. Make Au Jus: While the roll ups are baking, combine beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder in a saucepan. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 to 7 minutes to develop the flavors.
  7. Serve: Remove the roll ups from the oven and serve them warm alongside the hot au jus sauce for dipping, enhancing the savory taste.

Notes

  • You can substitute mozzarella or provolone cheese with Swiss or cheddar for a different flavor profile.
  • Use low-sodium beef broth if you want to control the salt content.
  • For extra crispness, broil the roll ups for 1-2 minutes at the end of baking, watching carefully to avoid burning.
  • Leftover au jus can be refrigerated for up to 3 days; reheat before serving.
  • To make it gluten-free, substitute the flour tortillas with gluten-free tortillas.
