Description

This Cinnamon Brie Apple Grilled Cheese is a delightful twist on the classic grilled cheese sandwich, combining the creamy richness of Brie with the sweet and spicy notes of cinnamon and apple slices. Perfect for a quick and comforting snack or light meal, it offers a lovely balance of flavors and textures that’s sure to satisfy.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 2 slices of bread (your choice, sourdough or whole wheat work well)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 apple, thinly sliced (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2-3 ounces Brie cheese, sliced
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cinnamon-sugar mixture: In a small bowl, combine the cinnamon and sugar thoroughly and set aside for icing the bread later.
  2. Butter the bread: Spread a thin, even layer of softened butter on one side of each slice of bread to help it brown nicely and hold the cinnamon-sugar topping.
  3. Add cinnamon sugar: Sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar mixture evenly over the buttered sides of both bread slices, ensuring good coverage for flavor.
  4. Heat the skillet and start grilling: Place one slice of bread, buttered and cinnamon-sugared side down, onto a skillet preheated over medium heat to begin toasting.
  5. Layer cheese and apple slices: Arrange the sliced Brie cheese on top of the bread in the skillet, then add thinly sliced apple evenly over the cheese layer.
  6. Top and grill the sandwich: Place the second slice of bread on top of the apple slices, buttered and cinnamon-sugared side facing up.
  7. Cook both sides: Grill the sandwich for about 3-4 minutes per side, carefully flipping when the bottom is golden brown and the cheese has started melting, until the other side is also golden and the cheese is fully melted.
  8. Serve: Remove the grilled sandwich from the skillet, slice it in half, and serve warm with a light pinch of salt sprinkled on top to enhance the flavors and add a contrasting savory note.

Notes

  • Use slicing apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for their crispness and balance of tartness and sweetness.
  • Be careful not to burn the bread; adjust heat as necessary to allow cheese to melt without overly toasting the bread.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute Brie with a suitable vegan cheese alternative.
  • You can add a drizzle of honey inside for extra sweetness if desired.
